Course of Study
The Master of Arts in Intercultural Theology is a two-year, full-time program conducted in English, requiring the completion of 120 ECTS credits. The student intake takes place every winter semester, with the study period starting in October.
From the Winter Semester 2025-2026, the program is fully based in Göttingen, where students reside for the duration of their studies. From the winter semester 2025-26, a new Directory of Modules is implemented.
[Students who began the program before the Winter Semester of 2025 will have the option to complete their studies under the previous regulations. Where required courses are no longer available, suitable alternatives will be offered on an individual basis.]
The Master’s program spans two years and is structured across four semesters. In the first year, students focus on Biblical Exegesis, Hermeneutics, and Contextual Theologies, while also engaging with Christianity in the context of transcultural exchange and postcolonial perspectives.
During the second year, students deepen their understanding of systematic and practical theological perspectives, develop expertise in intercultural research, and design their own individual research projects, culminating in the writing of the Master’s thesis.
