I am a sociologist and will be managing the professorship for Qualitative Methods at the Institute for Methods and Methodological Foundations of the Social Sciences at the University of Göttingen in the winter semester 2025/26 and summer semester 2026.
In my research and teaching, I work from the perspective of interpretive social research on the topics of belonging and social boundaries, flight processes and conflicts in (post-)migration societies, and the dynamics and consequences of collective violence. I have conducted research on these topics as part of various DFG projects (most recently: Biographical Trajectories of Migrants from Syria and West Africa in Brazil and Germany – Processes of Inclusion and Participation in the Context of So-called Irregular Migration, 2019–2023).
I studied education, sociology, and musicology at the Universities of Göttingen, Vienna, and Beer Sheva (Magister Artium). My dissertation, completed in 2019, deals with refugee migration in the context of the violent conflict in Syria since 2011. In 2021, the work was awarded the prize for outstanding dissertations by the “Migration and Ethnic Minorities” section of the German Sociological Association. In my postdoctoral research project, I am investigating the connection between biographical and inequality theory approaches using the example of transnational networks of refugees.
I am active in various academic networks (Biography Research Section of the German Sociological Association, RC38 of the International Sociological Association). In addition, as a member of the DFG-funded network “Qualitative Social Research and Transregional Theory-building in the Context of Global Sociology(ies),” I work together with international colleagues on the question of what contribution qualitative research can make to a globally and postcolonially informed sociology.
