Exciting announcement for international students

DAAD-Award 2025 for international students

The DAAD Award aims to recognize and promote outstanding academic performance and exceptional social engagement by international students at our university. The award is given to students who:

  • have demonstrated remarkable societal or intercultural engagement, preferably in Göttingen and at our university.
  • have excelled in their studies.
  • have shown a strong commitment to the university and the community.
  • are enrolled in a regular degree program at the University of Göttingen (not as a guest or exchange student).
  • are in an advanced stage of their studies, at least in their 2nd or 3rd year of undergraduate studies, or at least in the 2nd semester of a master's program, and are still enrolled by the end of December 2025. The award may also be given to recent graduates and prospective doctoral candidates.

Holding a DAAD or other scholarship does not exclude a nomination. However, guest and exchange students, as well as graduates who have already left Germany, are not eligible.

  • A prize of 1,000 €
  • A certificate of the award issued by DAAD and the University of Göttingen
  • Recognition of achievements through a laudation and award presentation by the Vice President for Equal Opportunities, Diversity, and International Affairs, Prof. Dr. Inge Hanewinkel, in a festive setting.

Are you a suitable candidate or would you like to nominate your fellow students? Or are you a faculty member wanting to nominate your students? The application form will be available until August 15, 2025. Please submit your complete application (application form, motivation letter, transcripts of records, recommendation letter, and proof of engagement) by August 15, 2025 to iso-daad@uni-goettingen.de. A recommendation letter from a university member is required for your application.

The selection committee, chaired by the Vice President for Equal Opportunities, Diversity, and International Affairs, along with the International Student Office, reviews the applications and selects the award recipient. The winner will be announced through a press release from the university.

In 2024, the award was presented to Ahmet Arslan from Turkey. Ahmet is pursuing a Ph.D. in Law at the University of Göttingen, and the committee recognized his high level of expertise and commitment to international students.

In 2023, the award went to Ostap Krynytskyy from Ukraine. Ostap is studying Molecular Life Sciences: Microbiology, Biotechnology, and Biochemistry. The committee acknowledged his outstanding academic performance and his efforts in supporting the integration of Ukrainian refugees.

The Scholarship for Exceptional Commitment also aims to promote the achievements and engagement of international students at our university.
