ENLIGHT Challenge-Based Education Trainings

Description:
In this online training, participants will learn about Challenge-Based Education (CBE) during two synchronous sessions supplemented by a self-paced online learning path. The training will introduce participants to basic theory of CBE and allow them to have an open exchange with their peers on pedagogical techniques and tools to design and guide a CBE module. Activities include among others designing a CBE course outline and discussing case studies on coaching students throughout the learning process.
You can find more information about CBE on the webpages of the ENLIGHT network.

    Structure of the programme

    • Online learning path (~3h): Introduction
The asynchronous online learning path provides an opportunity for academics and coaches to
learn the context and foundations of CBE. It covers an introduction to CBE, benefits of the method, a deep-dive into the engage-investigate-act framework, teachers’ experiences, the role of coaches and coaching tools, etc. The content comprises a combination of text, video, and interactive elements It is hosted on Ghent University online learning environment Ufora and requires a commitment of 3 hours from the participants – ideally separated over ~2 days.
Participants will get access to the online learning path two weeks before the synchronous training sessions and it is required to complete the learning path before the synchronous sessions start.
    • Session 1 (2,5h): Design a Challenge-Based Education module
In this synchronous session we focus on designing a course outline for a CBE module, discussing learning activities, assessment and the engage-investigate-act framework, among others. We aim to provide many opportunities to exchange with peers, e.g. by working in small groups.
    • Session 2 (2,5h): Guide student’s learning process throughout a Challenge-Based Education module
In this synchronous session, we dive deep into coaching students in every step of a CBE module. We will discuss case studies, pedagogical tools and techniques for guiding students and a space to share experiences with fellow teachers.
